LMYFA FOOTBALL INFORMATION

Our football program is intended to be instructional for all age groups, but is played competitively. Our coaches are selected for their ability to teach the game of football and to set a good character example for our boys both on and off the field. As the learning progresses, the players and the coaches focus on better execution of what they have learned which leads to the desire to win football games. Player safety is of paramount importance to all of us involved with the football program at Lake Mary. We provide state of the art equipment for our players that includes helmets, shoulder pads, hip, tail, thigh and knee pad sets, mouth guards, practice shirts, and game uniforms. We also provide a list of suggestions for personal equipment/gear that will further protect your son and make him more comfortable.

Each year our season is kicked off by a general parent and player meeting held in mid to late May which allows us to establish the accurate weight of each player and properly communicate important information regarding the upcoming season. In June/July, each team will be scheduled for equipment fitting and for a specific team meeting which provides a good opportunity to meet your coaching staff and have any questions answered. Also during the summer, the coaching staff of Lake Mary High School typically puts on a camp for players that provides some good skill training and gives the boys an important glimpse at what summer practice will be like.

Our practice officially begins on August 1 and is held every evening (5:30 pm until 8:00 pm, five days per week) through Labor Day weekend. Actual reporting and dismissal times will be approx 15 minutes before and after practice. From immediately following Labor Day to the end of the season our teams practice three days per week for two hours each night. Times are adjusted as days become shorter in the fall and are communicated by each team in advance of any change.

Teams will participate in at least one controlled scrimmage during the pre-season in August, and play in the annual Jamboree which is normally held in late August after the team's third week of practice. The regular season begins on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend and will continue each Saturday for eight to nine consecutive weeks. The Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee, Jr. Midget, and Midget teams are eligible for post season playoffs which could extend to early December. All teams may be invited to play in a post season bowl game regardless of their conference rankings.

You should reference the age/weight schematic to determine what team your son is eligible to play for and submit an application on his behalft.
